General Surgery
General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on the alimentary canal (including the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine), abdominal contents (such as the liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix, and bile ducts), and often the thyroid gland.
General surgeons perform surgeries for a wide range of common ailments and are responsible for patient care before, during, and after surgery. Despite the term “general,” these highly skilled surgeons may specialize in specific areas, such as cancer treatment or burns, requiring expertise across multiple body regions.
They diagnose, manage, and lead teams in preoperative, operative, and postoperative care
